Why I'm Giving Away 100 Copies of My Book The Virtuous Life

Updated: 1 day ago

A message from the author

This month, I’m giving away 100 Kindle copies of The Virtuous Life: Ancient Wisdom for Modern Living through a Goodreads Giveaway — completely free. I’m doing it for a simple reason: ideas only matter when they reach the people who need them.

Philosophy has always lived in conversation, not isolation. Socrates walked into the marketplace. The Stoics gathered students in public squares. The great traditions were meant to be practiced, not merely admired. That spirit is behind this giveaway.

Why give it away?

Because this book was written for readers who are searching for something deeper — and I don’t want price or discoverability to be the barrier that keeps them from finding it.

The Virtuous Life is for the person who has achieved much yet senses something essential is missing. For the professional who climbed the ladder and wonders if it leaned against the right wall. For the young person overwhelmed by choices but starved for direction. For anyone who suspects that the pursuit of “more” is not the same as the pursuit of “better.”

That reader is everywhere. I want this book to reach them.

What the book explores

The book draws on four great traditions — Stoicism, Aristotle’s virtue ethics, Buddhism, and Confucianism — to address the defining challenges of modern life: the anxiety of endless choice, the erosion of community, the confusion of success with meaning, and the quiet emptiness that prosperity alone cannot fill.

It also traces the arc of human progress through the thinkers who shaped our civilization — from Socrates and Alhazen to Locke, Wollstonecraft, Pasteur, and Borlaug — and asks what their legacies demand of us now, at a moment when artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and global connectivity are reshaping the world.

The ancient question and the modern challenge converge into a single inquiry: What kind of person must we become?
